During the study, the impact on the development of the fish and the changes made on the nitrite, nitrate and phosphate values of water of the barley plant were investigated. During the thirty-day experiment period, temperature, oxygen and pH were measured daily. The values of nitrite (NO2-), nitrate (NO3-) and phosphat (PO4-3) were weekly evaluated and compared to the control group. At the end of the experiment, the nitrite and phosphate levels were 90% and 61.86% lower, respectively and also nitrate level was 68.20% higher compared to the control. According to the obtained data, the growth rate of fishes in the aquaponic system was better than the fishes in the control group. In the light of these results, barley plant used in the aquaponic system, using the intermediates formed during the production of goldfish was found to improve the water quality.
