Determination of Consumption Habits and Preferences of Fishery products in Hatay Province, The People of İskenderun

The study was carried out by using the Basic Random Sampling Method and by applying a questionnaire of 29 questions to 350 individuals with different socio-economic backgrounds residing in the district center. It was determined that 32% of the consumers consumed animal-based, 27% of them consumed vegetable and 41% consumed both animal and vegetable-weighted products. It was determined that 95% of participants consumed fish meat and 5% consumed no fish meat. It is found that fish meat is prefered by 79,2% of the people and 11% of them do not prefere it. It has been determined that 1% of the population does not consume any animal products. It is understood that consumers, priority order from animal food products, consume 34% red meat, 27% white meat (poultry), 5% fish meat and 33% equally weight all three meat products. Consumers prefere primarily 48% sea fish, 9% freshwater fish and 38% both types. While 5% of consumers did not prefer any type. The fish species with the highest consumption are respectively anchovy (26%), sea bream (19%), sea bass (15%), trout (14%), barbun (9%), horse mackerel (7%), mackerel, loupe (4%) and shrub (2%). It was also found that 47% of consumers prefere also other aquatic products (mussels, shrimp, lobster, etc.) besides fish.
