A total of 17 fish species from 8 families were identified. These species; white thichlipped mullet (Chelon labrosus Risso, 1827), white seabream (Diplodus sargus L., 1758), striped seabream (Lithognathus mormyrus L., 1758), gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata L., 1758), madeiran sardinella (Sardinella maderensis Lowe, 1838), rabbitfish (Siganus rivulatus Forsskal, 1775), bogue (Boops boops L., 1758), thinlip grey mullet (Liza ramada Risso, 1810), seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax L., 1758), round sardinella (Sardinella aurita Valenciennes, 1847), derbio (Trachinotus ovatus L., 1758), live sharksucker (Echeneis naucrates L., 1758), grey mullet (Mugil cephalus L., 1758), false scad (Caranx rhonchus Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1817), annular seabream (Diplodus annularis L., 1758), anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus L., 1758), and red mullet (Mullus barbatus Linnaeus, 1758). The mean catch per unit effort of gillnets of mesh sizes of 40, 52, 60, 68, 72 and 80 mm were found to be 1.72, 2.45, 1.55, 0.75, 0.75, 0.46 kg/100 m, respectively. The highest amount of catch were found 52, 40 and 60 mm mesh sizes of gillnets, respectively. Keywords : Beymelek Lagoon, gillnets, catch per unit effort, catch composition
