Current Status of Protected Populations Seahorses in our country and the world's seas

They are mainly found in shallow tropical and temperate waters throughout the world. There is insuffient information to make an assessment about risk of extinction. Though the population is unknown lack of information about how much is caught as bycatch or collected to be used as souvenir or raw material for dryes. Since seahorse populations are thought to have been endangered in recent years, they have been included in protected list by IUCN and CITES.
